Salt Dough Necklaces
This is an extremely versatile craft! You can do so much with salt dough: ornaments, play "cookies" for your toy kitchen, baby foot/handprint keepsakes, etc. With so many girls in the house, we opted for necklaces this time around.
What you need:
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup salt
- 1 cup water
- cookie cutter
- paints
- paintbrush
- yarn
Combine the flour and salt. Mix in water a little bit at a time.
Once you have everything mixed in, knead it a few times and roll it out on a lightly floured surface.
Use your preferred cookie cutter and make your shapes! If you want to make necklaces like we did, use the eraser side of a pencil and poke a small hole through the top of your shapes.
Place your shapes on a cookie sheet and bake in the oven at 200 degrees F until dry. I usually pop them out and flip them over gently every 15-30 minutes. You can also microwave them to help dry faster if you want. Just go slow as you see what works. You'll see dark spots on them where they are still wet. Once completely dry, have a painting party (complete with newspapers and chaos of course)!
The kids enjoyed using q-tips to paint their pendants. They thought they turned out marvelously!
We paired this craft with our braided jewelry and made these fun necklaces!😊
